Mr. Martin's weekly update

   Weekly News   10-13-19

Thank you again to the Marshdale Community for all of your support with the Mustang Trot.  We raised $35,498!  On November 1st, all students will have a popcorn and PJ day. Students who earned $200 or more will have a Pancake Breakfast on November 4th and students who earned $500 or more will go on the Wild Game outing on November 7th. Invitations for the Pancake Breakfast and the Wild Game Outing will be sent home on October 18th.

Marshdale Library’s 4th Annual Pumpkin Palooza

Our pumpkin decorating contest kicked off this week.  Students are encouraged to decorate pumpkins to represent a character or story element (setting, problem, solution) from a fiction book.  Pumpkins should not be carved.  Entry forms are available in the library.  Pumpkins will be accepted in the library from Monday, October 21st through Tuesday, October 29th.  Winners will be announced and pumpkins will go home on Halloween (pumpkins left after Halloween will be discarded).  We can’t wait to be wowed by your creativity!

Picture Retake Day is Thursday, October 24th, starting at 9:00 am.  Only students who missed the original picture day (absent, new, etc.), or those not happy with their original pictures will be photographed.  Order forms are available in the office.

There will be no school on October 25th (Fall Break) or October 28th (Teacher Work Day).

Marshdale Student Leadership is sponsoring the Soles for Souls shoe drive. Please encourage your children to clean out their closets and bring in shoes to donate. Shoes of any type, size, or condition as well adult shoes are accepted. Shoes will be accepted until Friday, November 8th. Student Leadership would like to collect 2000 pairs of shoes.  Each week the traveling trophy will go to the grade with the most donations to date.  Soles for Souls collects shoes and ships them to places like Haiti, Honduras, and Kenya so people can wear them to protect themselves from diseases and get to school.

Our Box Top Drive continues and will run through October 25th. The class with the most Box Top clips will win a classroom party. Box Tops for Education is changing to a digital platform. You can scan your store receipt and our school is automatically credited for any qualifying purchases. Please download the app to help earn money for Marshdale. Box Top clips with valid expiration dates will also be honored.

Entries for our annual PTA Reflections Contest are due by Monday, October 21st. This year's theme is "Look Within" and entries are accepted in the categories of dance, film, literature, music, photography and visual arts. Turn in entries, even early ones, at the office.  If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Baynes at
