Dress Code
Dress Code at Marshdale Elementary
The Marshdale community values student dress and appearance that enhance and support the learning process. Clothing or appearance, including hair or make-up, that distract students from learning and cause disruption are not appropriate in the elementary school environment. While we support students’ rights to express themselves, we feel this can be accomplished in a way that does not disrupt the learning process, or it can be done outside the regular school day. We, therefore, have developed the following expectations:
- Wear clothing that is modest and not excessively revealing. Clothing that is inappropriate at the elementary level is crop tops, bare midriffs, tube or halter tops, spaghetti straps, shorts or skirts that are above mid-thigh, tank tops, fishnet shirts, or muscle shirts, clothing with inappropriate writing or pictures, clothing that shows undergarments, or other revealing or suggestive clothing.
- Please refrain from wearing hairstyles or hair colors that distract and draw negative attention from other students and parents. Trendy hairstyles and colors are fun but are a great distraction to the learning process. We, therefore, ask that students refrain from this practice to focus their attention on learning rather than fashion.
- Please refrain from wearing clothing that advertises drugs, alcohol, tobacco, violence, or weapons
- Hats are a teacher’s choice in class. Hats should not be worn in the building’s common spaces.
- Trench coats are never allowed.
- Shoes with built-in skates are not allowed in the school building.
Students dressed inappropriately will be asked to contact their parents and arrange a change of clothing. If we cannot get ahold of parents, or time is a factor, the office may provide clothes for the student to change into. Please remind students to dress for any weather in Colorado!
Dress Code Guidance in Jeffco
Responsibility for student dress and appearance generally rests with individual students and their families. Students may wish to express themselves by the manner of their dress and appearance; however, students shall not wear clothing or affect an appearance at school or school-sanctioned activities or events that is disruptive to the educational environment. Jeffco Public Schools standards on student attire are intended to help students focus on schoolwork, reduce discipline problems, and improve school order and safety.
Disciplinary action for violating the student dress code shall include notifying the student of the violation and requiring that the dress or appearance be corrected before the student reenters the classroom, school environment, or school-sanctioned activity or event. At the discretion of the building-level administrator, a family conference may be held. More serious consequences may result from repeated or serious violations.
